Mr. Bill with a "Palena" brown!
During this season we have been going across the Andes very often, wild and wet environment on the other side of the mountains!
Several trips we have done, and fishing was excellent, the hospitality and wilderness are spotless. Due to the active volcano we rarely encountered other fishermen in the "Palena" region…The rivers were in good shape, they carried a bit more color due to the ashes… but this certainly did not affect the fishing. All of our guest were excited about the adventurous road trips. Narrow winding roads, and around every corner a new stretch of water to fish.
Hope you can join us in htese road trips that we will continue organizing in the future.

As you all know, February is our shortest month and also the warmest… normally it affects the fishing big time.
This season on some of the rivers (Carrileufu) we fish, they presented an invasion of grass hoppers and also a black worm that fed on the old lupines flowers these plants grow on the banks right on the edges and fish where waiting for them right below them in case they fell in the river… So we used all sorts of attractors and terrestrials to fool those hungry trout. Some of the results you can see at the picture above!
We also went to Chile a few times to fish various rivers with awesome results, guests are loving the road trips. Come and join us in our next road trip in search of the pristine waters!!!

January 2009,
Never a better start than with a float trip on the Chubut! The river was right at prime condition, water level and temperature. Our catches, over 50 landed fish per boat every day, some of the fish reached well over 20 inches! Trip to remember…
The Carrileufu, using hoppers and terrestrials was just stunning, The Rivadavia turned from dries on the foam lines from the boat, to nymphs and a lot of wading. Some of the catches were just spectacular, we also started with our road trips into Chile, fished several spots including the Palena, and Yelcho river and Lake, all were exceptional and fulfilled all of our expectations.
Summing up, a great start of 2009

Dear All!!!
The Arroyo Claro team wishes you a wonderful X-MAS and a Happy NEW YEAR!
December was a great month for fishing, the weather was perfect, not too much wind and clear skies with wet wading temperatures.
Our favorite this past month was Lago Verde with exquisite dry fly fishing this combined with Rio Arrayanes made a wonderful day.
Rivadavia presented unbelievable caddis hatches as we had never seen in the past, trout lined up in the feeding lines just waiting for a good presentation and eager to take the fly.
Now January is around the corner, we begin with a Chubut river four day float and the road trips with Jorge as a host start to take place in all the fishing corners of Patagonia. Join him just send us an email and we will be more than happy to fill you in with all the detailed info on these adventure trips!
We wish you the best and looking forward to having you with us at our precious spot in the world, where lines are tight, wines and food the perfect make the perfect companion!
Saludos
Arroyo Claro Team!

Traditionally a tough month for fishing, due to the hot temperatures that affect the water and therefore the fish become quite stationary in the depths and dark areas. This year begun quite well and little by little the fishing got tougher and tougher, we went into a heavy drought that affected the fields and forests, some sparse fires took place on several areas simultaneously. On the other hand because of the lack of rain, the water level in the water courses was low and not fast. Wading was easy and fish got stacked up in the pools. Nymph fishing and dry fly fishing was the way to go. We moved around quite a bit and concentrated our fishing in the spring creek waters, which maintained the normal temperatures and the fish were quite active.
We were honored with the visit of Jack and Barbara Nicklaus and friends, we also had our great friends form the south of the United States so our month of February was total full and fun!

Arroyo Claro Lodge
December has been, so far, a month during which we have had an enormous amount of work because of our occupancy rate has been very high. The fishing so far matched the expectations and it started off with the typical streamer fishing as usual but now we are having a lot of action on the surface, having caddis and midge hatches. The caddis so far has been the “micro white caddis”. Rainbows are looking healthy in the “Rivadavia river”, on the “Carrileufu river” we have caught many Landlocked Salmon surpassing our expectations. We have also landed a few nice Loch Leven Browns too.
The water levels shifted quite a bit through out the month, due to the variability of the weather , switching from dead calm with high temperatures occasioning big run offs from the winter snow, on to very cold windy session but rarely getting rained on. Normally the spring can be windy, but normally this happens more during October and not December as this year.
Next week we have our first trip to the "Chubut River" I will give you a full report on this adventure as soon as we get back!
Wish you all the best for Christmas and a very Happy New Year!!!
Sebastian Graziosi
