Fly fisherman come to Arroyo Claro to enjoy fishing for pure strain, Mc Cloud rainbows, Loch Leven and German brown trout and the unique Landlocked Atlantic salmon from Sebago Lake, Maine.
Guests will discover uncrowded streams with angling opportunities to suit every preference or ability. No matter how long you stay at Arroyo Claro, you will fish new waters every day, there are 30 miles of fishable waters around the lodge and 70 miles of floatable rivers in the area.
The Rio Carrileufu is born at Lago Cholila. At the boca, the angler will find salmon and brook trout. Further downstream, the rainbows become aggressive to dry flies any time of the season. From the lodge, a few miles away, lies the famous crystal clear Rio Rivadavia, where stalking rainbows and browns becomes a unique experience.
We are privileged to have access to vast wilderness resources, including Arroyo Claro’s own estancia (ranch) and the National Park Los Alerces. Without a doubt, the exclusivity and remoteness of these rivers and streams make them some of the most prized fly fishing waters in the world. Arroyo Claro has a team of full time, certified Argentine fishing guides. They come from European families settled in Patagonia many years ago. Their knowledge of the country and local history will surprise you.
Fishing Options at Arroyo Claro Lodge
The most exquisite trout fishing experience is to cast a dry fly over a big, wild trout in a clear mountain stream. Arroyo Claro guests find that opportunity every day.
Float to Wade – Access to most of our rivers is difficult by foot, so floating them with inflatable rafts is an easy way to reach the best pools and runs to wade. We offer guest daily float trips with licensed rafting guides.
Wading – Easy to wade rivers, like Arroyo Pichum and Rio Carrileufu, both in our ranch, and the Canal spring creek in the national park, are minutes away from the lodge.
Float Trips – For the more adventurous angler seeking the ultimate outdoor experience, we suggest a three day float trip, visiting waters that are very seldom fished. For these trips, we provide all the necessary camping equipment.
Remote Lakes & Streams – From our ranch we offer horse back trips to very isolated small lakes that hold trophy rainbows.
Esquel Area – Seventy miles from our lodge, this area holds some of the most fertile waters in Argentina. Often included in our itineraries, the waters we offer to our guests are Arroyo Pescado, one of the most productive spring creeks in the world; the famous Rio Grande, also known as the Futaleufu (to float and wade for rainbows and browns) and the small Nanty Fall creek, where rainbows can exceed ten pounds.
